Nidderdale & Wharfedale Short Walks Guidebook - OS Short Walks Made Easy
Free delivery on all orders (more info)
Covering 233 square miles, Nidderdale sits between dales and lowland plains. Designated a National Landscape in 1994, it remains richly unspoilt. The area lies between the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Vale of York.
The rivers Nidd and Wharfe shape much of the landscape. Their winding valleys form beautiful settings for many of these walks. Expect peaceful riversides, gentle meadows and classic Yorkshire scenery.
Scar House Reservoir offers a dramatic high‑moorland walking circuit. It is the highest reservoir in Nidderdale and impressively remote. Wide views and open skies define this memorable route.
Walk from Lofthouse through the striking How Stean Gorge. From Pateley Bridge, enjoy expansive Nidderdale views on the Panorama Walk. These routes showcase the dale at its most beautiful.
In Wharfedale, explore meadows and woodland around Bolton Abbey. Cross the River Wharfe using the famous stepping stones. Further south, routes climb Ilkley Moor to rocks, tarns and crags.
Beyond walking, enjoy a brewery visit in Masham. Follow nature trails at Marfield Wetlands and woodland paths at Hackfall. Studley Royal’s elegant parkland and the Nidderdale Greenway complete the collection.
