Each route leads to one or more Fells summits, and requires the walker to be capable of navigating with a map and compass or GPS device. Many of the ascents include some more challenge, such as a traverse, scramble, or an exposed ridge. Unlike the other Pathfinder guider, the routes are not grouped into difficulty, but provide enough information for each individual to calculate for themselves the amount of time and effort likely to be needed.
